Darts - How to Choose the Right Set for a Dart Game
Barrel grips, flights (dimpled vs. smooth), dart weights (12 - 50 grams), dart types -- all very important things to understand when buying your first set of darts. It's best to buy a less expensive set of darts for first time buyers, and throw darts for a long while (about a year or so), before you learn your throwing style. The lighter the dart, the faster/harder you will need to throw it.
Dart types:
- wood
- brass
- nickel/silver - $$ less expensive, because softer metal and less durable
- tungsten - $$$ most popular among dart league throwers, and most expensive. The more tungsten % ( a heavy metal) the dart contains, the smaller the barrel and the higher the quality. A smaller barrel means you can fit more darts closer together in groupings on the dart board, reducing the chance of drop outs.
Soft tip darts: for electronic boards
Dart Flight types:
- smooth surface: less friction - dart moves faster, but less stability
- dimpled surface: slow down and balance/stabilize darts
